MIC: Making Innovative Changes
I am a student pursuing a biology degree. My primary target is to become a doctor. Providing support and relief to people is my purpose.
I noticed that all the students are not aware about all the resources available at campus to promote graduation and successful transfer.
Find ways to make sure students access the resources and services at campus to promote an environment where graduation is the main target. Students should feel safe on campus. That is why I believe that promoting more information and tools across the hallways and offices is important, especially for the immigrant population, to make sure students know their rights. Promote mentorship programs to influence students to join and find resources. I noticed students are not aware about those programs or shy to ask by themselves. I’d possibly like to bring the transfer office back because I believe that after LaGuardia is important to establish students’ careers.
I would represent a voice with and for the students in order to make the resources available on campus even more accessible. Especially in interesting times that we are currently living where the current administration in the White House is reducing or cutting funding and resources for college students across the 50 states. It’s important to make sure students have access to all the resources now.
Garrett Morgan Jr.
The United People’s Slate
I was born and raised in Astoria, Queens. I fell in love with politics in high school so I decided to major in political science. I love cooking. And I am very passionate about helping others.
I became interested in running for office because in high school I similarly ran for office and I absolutely love being able to help people and help my community.
I am guided by the fact that when in office, it’s not about what I want, but yet it’s about what the student body needs. It’s also about how I can work as a team with my fellow student government members to get the work of the people done. I’m also guided by the idea that I believe everyone has the right to a safe environment and that everyone has the right to get an education.
One issue that I think is most important right now is the access to information. While LaGuardia does try to work on its ability to get information out to students, it hasn’t been improving and to me that is a very big issue with everything that’s going on around us. I would like to work with the school to develop more and new ways of getting information out to all students so that all students can stay informed.
I believe that students should vote for me because the students of LaGuardia deserve a leader who has experience in leadership, who has experience in activism and standing up for student rights, who is not afraid to stand up to the administration when they feel students’ rights are being impacted, and most, but certainly not least, the students of LaGuardia deserve a leader who’s doing the job because they care and not because it’s something good to add to their resume. I love the LaGuardia community and how diverse and unique we are and I think that is something to be celebrated and protected. If I become president, I will do just that.

Jiale and John
I am a math and engineering student with vivid leadership experience in clubs and the Senate. Last year, I immersed myself in academic competitions, research, internships, tutoring, and volunteer work. Therefore, I treasure my time at LaGuardia CC, which is why I hope to remain here for another year, and continue growing together and supporting one another.
You could find additional details about me by searching my name. However, for now, set aside who I am and consider me as a prospective candidate, guided by what resonates with your heart.
Today, looking back on the past year, I see a version of myself who was once lost yet stayed actively engaged on campus. I wondered whether all my efforts were worthwhile or if I was simply exhausting myself. However, whenever I recall the time I spent across every corner of campus, I realize it was worth it.
Each of us pursues different goals in life, but for me, I want to help you in anything as best I can and learn from your unique experiences.
Inclusivity: If you ever encounter—or are currently experiencing—anything that makes you feel unwelcome, please know that I could share your concern.
I want to bring about positive change so that students can enjoy a memorable experience here. Even though everyone’s needs on campus may differ, each one is on a meaningful journey, and these experiences cannot be erased. When you look back on your time at LaGuardia CC, I hope you see it as a place filled with love, warmth, and support.
Discovering who you truly are. Our destiny is determined by us, not by fate. If others can succeed, why not us? Failure simply means we weren’t fully prepared yet.
I appreciate that you’ve taken the time to learn about me so far. If you already know me, I’d be grateful for your support. If not, I hope these few moments I’ve shared can earn your valuable vote. I’m always on campus, and I know our paths will cross. I will see you, you shining.
I don’t think we could find a person who can perfectly represent every student. Each of you has your own sparkle. I just borrow a bit of your light so, together, we can guide those students who are still finding their way.
John Smith
Jiale and John
Hello, my name is John Smith. I’m a Liberal Arts: Math and Science major, currently serving as an alternate student senator. I’m running for the position of Vice President to continue advocating for positive change within our student government.
Serving as alternate student senator gave me insight into some of the issues that are in our school, and I believe I can make a more impactful change in the SGA.
I believe being in any elected position means serving others. As a leader, I prioritize listening to students and making sure their concerns lead to real change.
I think it’s important to recognize that a lot of things can be improved within the school, from the community fostered at LaGuardia to enrollment and the resources available. One major issue is that many students don’t hear about what programs or resources are available to them. I want to improve outreach and feedback channels, so students are more informed, more involved, and better supported.
I believe elected officials should be visible and accountable. If I’m elected, I’ll take a more active approach to the student government-working on real solutions to student needs. College is already hard enough-your school should make it easier, not harder.
Phenelope Lolo
MIC: Making Innovative Changes
Hello everyone! My name is Phenelope Lolo and I major in Psychology. I am very dedicated to advocate for positivity, resilience and more aspects about our mental health that need to be addressed.
It would be my passion for leadership and my willingness to reinforce student support.
As a leader, I am guided by the principles of empathy, transparency, and accountability. I do believe that listening and amplifying the voices of all students, being open minded and honest in my decision making and especially taking responsibility for my actions.
One issue that is vital to students is mental health support. Many students struggle with stress, anxiety and other mental health concerns. It is very essential that we provide adequate resources and support. As Vice President, I would plan to address this issue by working with school administrators to promote awareness and create a student- led mental health support network.
I am very determined to creating supportive environment where every student feels welcomed, valued and heard
Zofia Tubin
The United People’s Slate
Hello, my name is Zofia and I’m running for Vice President in the United People’s Slate. I’m a first-year electrical engineering student who loves solving calc equations, working with computers, and learning just about anything under the sun. Outside of the classroom, I’m part of the Student Senate, the Tabletop Gaming Club, and the recently reintroduced Art Club! While my academic focus may lie in the STEM field, I’m also deeply passionate about community outreach and organization in my personal life.
From organizing tutoring sessions for students to volunteering at my local library and hosting a variety of educational workshops there, I always strive to foster a positive environment that can help others grow. As Vice President, I’ll bring that same energy to help make our college community more inclusive and fun for everyone. Thank you for getting to know me a bit, and I hope to earn your support!
I became interested in running for office because I’ve always cared about making a positive impact for everyone, no matter the place. I love bringing people together, whether it’s planning small get-togethers between friends or organizing group-study sessions with my classmates or even encouraging conversations between two complete strangers! I just think that a strong campus community makes a huge difference in how people experience school, and I want to help create that kind of positive environment.
Running for student government just felt like the right way to take that passion and turn it into action in working towards a more nurturing college community.
A major principle that guides me as a leader is the inclusion of every person’s voice and opinion. No matter how small an issue, I believe progress by a group can only be made if every one of its members are heard and supported. A leader is only as good as their team, so I do my best to cultivate a good camaraderie between everyone!
If elected to student government, my top priority will be to strengthen the sense of community at LaGuardia. In challenging times like these, it’s more important than ever to stand together and protect one another. Every student deserves to feel safe, heard, and supported on campus. College should be a place of growth and learning, not a place of fear or uncertainty. That’s why I will always advocate for student rights and work to ensure our campus remains a safe and inclusive environment for all.
I also want to address the communication gap between administration and the student body. LaGuardia offers a wide range of resources, from internships and events to academic and personal support, but many students don’t even know these opportunities exist. I’ll push for more transparent and effective ways to share this information so that every student, regardless of background or major, has equal access to the tools they need to succeed.
Because I’m not here to speak for you, I’m here to listen to you. I believe that student government isn’t about making decisions in isolation, but about creating a space where every student’s voice matters. I will actively seek out your opinions, concerns, and ideas, and make sure they’re heard where it counts.
I’m committed to transparency, addressing real concerns, and building a campus environment that feels inclusive, supportive, and driven by what students actually want, not just what looks good on paper. Whether it’s pushing for better resources, organizing events that reflect everyone’s interests, or simply making sure you feel seen and heard, I’ll work every day to make sure your needs come first.
At the end of the day, I’m running because I believe student voices should shape the student experience, and I’ll do everything I can to make sure yours is heard.

MIC: Making Innovative Changes
I’m a proud mom of a toddler and currently in my second semester of the Registered Nursing program here at LaGuardia. I live with a disability that’s in an advanced stage, but I’ve never let it stop me from pursuing my dream of becoming a nurse. I love being active on campus—I’m a parent representative for the Early Childhood Learning Center (ECLC), an ambassador for La Casa de las Américas, and a member of both the SAFE Committee and the Public Safety Committee. I also currently serve as the Secretary of the SGA Class of 2025.
I was inspired by a member of the SGA from the Class of 2024. She opened my eyes to the many resources available at LaGuardia that I hadn’t known about—like LaGuardia Cares and the Wellness Center. Her guidance and leadership motivated me to get involved and give back to our community the same way she did for me.
As a leader, I’m guided by honesty, discipline, compassion, and hard work. I believe in being understanding and supportive, especially when it comes to defending and celebrating our diverse student body. Everyone deserves to feel seen, heard, and respected.
One important issue is the need for expanded childcare support for student parents. The ECLC is an amazing resource, but it’s only open Monday through Friday, which creates challenges for parents like me who work full time and attend classes. I would advocate for expanded hours and increased capacity, including weekend availability, so more student parents can succeed at LaGuardia without worrying about childcare.
As a full-time nursing student and a parent, I truly understand the challenges many of us face—whether it’s financial stress, health issues, mental well-being, or balancing childcare. I’m committed to using my role in SGA to help make the LaGuardia experience better for everyone. I will work to ensure students feel supported, connected, and more involved in our college community.

The United People’s Slate
Hi! I am a Political Science Major here at LaGuardia in my second semester! I enjoy reading, crocheting, and playing video games. I am Hispanic and Pacific Islander and I speak 2 languages (I am currently trying to learn Hawaiian!)
I really was just always interested in politics generally and genuinely wanting to do better for my community. LaGuardia is such a diverse and inclusive college that I feel it has the potential to be so much more! When I heard we even had a Student Government I knew I wanted to meet people and work towards the common goal of making LaGuardia a better and safer place for everyone.
Some principles that guide me are honesty and realism. I feel promising something to someone to get your way and not holding up your end is just a bad way to carry yourself and being real in where you are at currently and what you have the capability to do is important. Making sure I have the complete ability to do something before I make a promise grounds me and helps me make good decisions that guide me to be a trustworthy and successful leader.
One issue that I feel is important to me and my fellow students that I plan to address is lack of communication between students and administration. The majority of friends and classmates I have don’t even have access to their emails and didn’t even know that there were certain clubs or fairs going on and I want to push that more and to make sure everyone knows there’s a club and fair that would interest them. As I said, LaGuardia is very diverse and with that comes interesting and unique clubs that they can use to expand their horizons and meet people with similar interests.
A student should vote for me to represent them because I am not just planning to worry about clubs or my individual task, I want to aid and work on multiple projects and concerns. They wouldn’t just be voting for a clubs coordinator but also voting for a team player who is willing to work for them! This isn’t for a resume or for show, I truly care about the school I’m attending and I want to see it flourish!
Ray Garman
My name is Ray, a native New Yorker, trained chef, artist and animal lover. Proudly starting a new chapter in life as a student at LaGuardia majoring in Paralegal Studies.
I’m proud to be a student here at LaGuardia and I’ve learned there is always room for progress. I’d love to do my part in facilitating positive changes here for everyone!
I try to hear and see things from other people’s perspectives. Everyone’s view matters and has a place in efforts for bettering our community.
I’d work to better the administration/student relationship by creating easier, better access to assistance and support.
I will ensure unbiased visibility for all as well as be ready and willing to communicate with the student body to understand all unique issues and do my part in instilling necessary changes.
Robin Sarkar
MIC: Making Innovative Changes
Hi Everyone! I’m Robin Sarkar and I’m running to be your next Parliamentarian in the student government association. As a dedicated student at LaGuardia Community College, I’ve learned the importance of communication, organization, and leadership. My goal as Parliamentarian is to ensure that meetings run smoothly and that the rules are followed fairly for everyone.
I chose to run for Parliamentarian because I enjoy helping things stay organized and fair, and I believe I can bring that energy to SGA. I want to be someone students can count on to speak up, follow through, and keep things running smoothly.
Some of the principles that guide me as a leader are honesty, respect, and accountability. I believe a good leader should always be truthful, even when it’s hard.
If elected I will make sure that the voices of my peers are heard. I’d also work to make sure meetings are well-organized and that every student representative has the chance to speak and be heard. Clear communication leads to better decisions and a stronger student community.
Students should vote for me because I am committed to making sure their voices are heard and their concerns are addressed. I’m not just running for this position because I want to be a part of student government—I genuinely want to help create an environment where students feel supported, informed, and empowered.
Fatima Herhar
MIC: Making Innovative Changes
Hello, my name is Fatima Herhar and my major is Biology. Since I was a young child, I had many goals and dreams that I wanted to achieve one day. Now that I’m a LaGuardia student, it has helped me greatly to begin heading in the right direction. College is not just a place where you spend 4 years or more of your life to just get a degree. For me college is more than a path to a degree. It is an environment where you can learn with people that share the same interests. LaGuardia helped me to fulfill my dreams of attending that I abandoned for so long and become more of a “challenger.” Since then, I have become a dedicated student who enjoys challenges. Attending college wasn’t an easy path for me. I tried for years. Finally, the banished dream came true. My experience at LaGuardia has shown me that there is still more to explore and discover.
I became interested in running for office because of my experiences as a student at LaGuardia. Growing up, I had many dreams and goals, but it wasn’t until I started attending college that I realized the power of challenging myself and becoming a dedicated individual. LaGuardia helped me fulfill my dreams and transformed me into someone who enjoys tackling challenges. I realized that, just like I overcame obstacles to get here, I could be someone who helps others navigate their own challenges and make a difference.
As a leader, I follow a few key principles. First, I believe in never giving up. My journey to college was not easy, but I kept trying, and eventually, my dream came true. This taught me that persistence is important, and I want to encourage others to keep going, even when things are tough.
Second, I value learning and growing. College has shown me that being a leader isn’t just about knowing everything, but about being open to learning new things.
Lastly, I believe in supporting others. LaGuardia has helped me reach my goals, and I want to be there for others, helping them reach theirs. I believe a good leader helps others succeed and creates a positive environment where everyone can thrive.
One important issue I would focus on is improving access to academic and mental health resources. Many students struggle to balance school and personal challenges, so I would work to make sure resources like tutoring and counseling are easy to find and use. I would also push for more awareness of these services so that students know where to get the help they need. This way, everyone can feel supported and succeed in their studies.
I will fight for better access to academic support and mental health resources, ensuring every student has the tools to succeed. I’m determined to make sure our voices are heard and that we have the support we need to thrive. If elected, I’ll work relentlessly to make our campus a place where everyone feels empowered and supported.
Jela Hector
The United People’s Slate
Hi! My name is Jela Hector, I’m a 1st generation college student of Trinidadian and Venezuelan descent.
I understand how it feels to be excluded from peers and my goal is to create more connections within LaGuardia. I’m also interested in directly learning the issues students face and advocating for them.
Kindness, discipline, and dedication.
The promotion of different programs, opportunities, and internships to the student body needs to be improved, every student should have a fair chance of succeeding.
I want to be your voice, I want to be involved, I want to be your advocate and lastly, I want to be your friend. If any of you need someone to talk to I want to be the ear that will listen.
