Paralegal Studies Major Tamoy Bloomfield Launches The Law Society: Pre-Law League for Students

Paralegal Studies Major Tamoy Bloomfield Launches The Law Society: Pre-Law League for StudentsLONG ISLAND CITY, NY (April 11, 2025) — Tamoy Bloomfield, 43, a Paralegal Studies major, is Founder and President of a new club for students interested in the law. The Law Society: Pre-Law League held its first meeting on Friday afternoon, April 4, with new members recruited from the Club Fair on March 26, where 80 students signed up.

“This club is about connecting, learning, and growing in the legal field while building a strong community of future legal professionals,” said Tamoy.

Organizing and leading are second nature to Tamoy, a mother of three daughters. During her 12 years as a stay-at-home mother, she served as president of the PTA, a member of the School Leadership Team, and a Title 1 Committee Member at a school in Flushing attended by her two youngest daughters, ages 10 and 13.

Tamoy has aspired to become a lawyer ever since her uncle, “who was everything to me,” was murdered in front of their family home in Brownsville, Brooklyn, when she was five years old. His murder remained unsolved for over 30 years until it was finally solved six years ago.

She posits that the untimely death of her “protector” led her down a difficult path. Tamoy left high school during her sophomore year when she became pregnant with her first daughter, now 28 years old and a paralegal with a bachelor’s degree from the University at Buffalo/SUNY.

In early 2023, Tamoy’s best friend tragically lost her life in a car accident. Later that year, Tamoy decided to return to school. “I remember the exact day I decided to go back to school,” said Tamoy. “It was November 30, 2023, and the application deadline was the very next day, December 1.” With the GED she had earned 10 years earlier, she enrolled at LaGuardia Community College.

Tamoy said that she appreciates LaGuardia for its “community, diversity, and the friends I’ve made. And the professors are great. They make classes fun. Andrea Irias, Paralegal Studies Program Director, who I had for Family Law and Civil Litigation, finds creative way to make challenging content interesting. And Hector Fernandez, Professor of Paralegal Education, regularly uses pop culture references – keeping my classmates and me engaged.”

Professors Irias and Fernandez have become mentors for Tamoy and are helping her launch the Law Society club. She plans to take Law Society members to criminal and family court to watch trials in progress. This is on the advice of lawyers she follows on LinkedIn, who say that “if you’re not watching trials in progress, you’re missing out.”

Tamoy is looking forward to her required internship this summer, which she hopes will be with the Queens District Attorney’s office. She is on track to finish her degree at LaGuardia after the Fall 1 of 2025. After that, she plans to work as a paralegal while pursuing a bachelor’s degree and then attend law school.

While the last few years have brought many changes and challenges, Tamoy is proud that she’s doing things her own way. She looks forward to her future career as an attorney specializing in family or criminal law.
