LONG ISLAND CITY, NY (April 7, 2025) — The Theater Program at LaGuardia Community College/CUNY will stage Caryl Churchill’s Love and Information with eight performances from May 12 to May 19. The play delves into the complexities of human relationships and the impact of information in modern society. The production features a versatile ensemble of 13 actors and seven crew members, all from LaGuardia’s Theater Program.

“We chose Love and Information for the unique opportunities it offers our students,” said Theater Professor James Ryan (JR) Caldwell, the show’s director. “Each student will portray 8-10 characters throughout the performance, often switching roles rapidly. This demands exceptional focus and precision. They must fully understand each character’s circumstances and make distinct vocal and physical choices to convey the essence of each new role instantly. Our students have risen to this challenge admirably, and I’m excited for the audience to witness their performances.”

The LaGuardia Theater program is a point of pride for LaGuardia Community College. Its students have earned numerous honors at the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival, the premier theater festival for students at two and four-year colleges nationwide. Graduates often transfer to audition-based theater programs and receive scholarships to prestigious conservatories. Alumni work throughout the theater world in various roles both on-stage and off, in administration, development, production crew, and other areas.

Love and Information is a kaleidoscopic play that explores the human need for connection in a world saturated by data and social media. The work unfolds through brief, self-contained scenes that explore how information shapes, transforms, connects, and fragments our lives.

The play debuted in London in 2012 and premiered in the U.S. in February 2014 by the New York Theatre Workshop at the Minetta Lane Theatre, in a production directed by James Macdonald.

Love and Information was written by Caryl Churchill, a renowned British playwright known for her innovative and influential works that often explore feminist themes and social issues. She has received numerous honors, including the Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Play for Serious Money and multiple Obie Awards for plays such as Top Girls and Cloud 9.
