Design for All: High Impact Learning through Universal Design Learning

This CTL workshop is lead by Derek Stadler (Library) and Choon Shan Lai (Social Science).

Derek Stadler has led many workshops and seminars promoting an inclusive learning environment for students by using UD concepts and Choon Shan Lai, currently serves as the CUNY UDL facilitator at LaGuardia and has been organizing monthly UDL collaborative meetings.

Through hands-on techniques and group discussions, Derek and Shan will help participants develop inclusive learning environment for all students by using practices of Universal Design (UD).

The participants will:

• Discuss who our students are and potential barriers that may inhibit learning for students with or without visible disability.
• Discuss UD principles and practices that can result in high impact learning that deepens understanding and engage all types of students.
• Provide suggestions to address issues likely to come up using hypothetical classroom scenarios.
• Use hands-on activities and technology to make the learning environment welcoming for all students.
