Q-STEM Research
Engaging in research is an important part of your academic journey, allowing you to explore topics that spark your curiosity. Through research, you develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills, all essential for your future career. Conducting faculty-led research allows you to contribute to the advancement of knowledge and make a real impact on your field of study. The experience will enhance your learning and open doors to new opportunities that could shape your future.
We’re thrilled to offer a unique opportunity for students to learn research skills, conduct paid research, or participate in discipline-specific internships. These opportunities are designed for curious minds eager to delve into STEM research and learn essential professional skills. Students will be matched with a faculty based on their discipline and interest. Students can do research as early as their first year at LaGuardia. This opportunity happens twice during the academic year. The winter session starts in mid-December, and the summer session begins in mid-June. No prior research experience is necessary. Eligibility and Application Open to All LaGuardia STEM Students.
Summer and Winter Academy
The Summer and Winter Academies are a series of workshops designed to immerse you in discipline-specific knowledge and skills. Whether you want to deepen your understanding of your field of study or explore new academic interests, these workshops provide a unique opportunity to learn from experienced faculty members. You’ll have the chance to engage with cutting-edge topics, participate in hands-on activities, and connect with professors who are leaders in their fields. This is more than just a learning experience—it’s a chance to build relationships, network with peers, and prepare yourself for academic and professional success. Please note that Workshops can be scheduled at both LaGuardia and Queens College.
Students in both the Research program and the Summer and Winter Academy will visit Queens College through either:
- Lab Crawl: tour of research facilities at Queens College where students visit several labs and meet with faculty conducting research in their discipline.
- Lab Technique: workshop where you will learn lab skills specific to your discipline taught by Queens College faculty.
