About

hephzibah (pronounced “hep-za-ba”) strmic-pawl joins the Social Science Department as a Lecturer in Sociology. She has her Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Virginia. Her most recent position was as a tenured professor at Manhattanville College, and she is thrilled to be joining the community college community. hephzibah attended four community colleges after high school (Piedmont in Charlottesville, VA, Bunker Hill in Boston, Harold Washington in Chicago, and Truman in Chicago) and feels a deep appreciation for and commitment to community colleges. hephzibah’s research and teaching specialization is on the US racial hierarchy, with a focus on multiraciality and the US racial classification system. In her free time, she crafts, reads fiction, and “likes” to run. She also manages an initiative to create a holiday in honor of Ella Baker.
