About

Adam Thomas studies early American, Caribbean, and African American history, with a focus on slavery, emancipation, kinship, rebellion, and historical memory. His research has been supported by fellowships from the Social Science Research Council, Council on Library and Information Resources, American Antiquarian Society, American Philosophical Society, Virginia Historical Society, and the Library Company of Philadelphia. His work has been published in the Journal of Southern History, Slavery & Abolition, Journal of Global Slavery, Women’s Studies Quarterly, Black Perspectives, and Picturing Black History. A new article, co-authored with Liz Harper of Western Carolina University, is forthcoming in the Journal of Appalachian Studies.
