For Visitors (General Public)
- Students, faculty and staff cannot be photographed or filmed when they have secluded themselves in places where they have a reasonable expectation of privacy (for example, in dressing rooms, restrooms, medical facilities, counseling offices, and support services which include LaGuardia CARES, Wellness Center, and the Women’s Center/LGBTQ Safe Hub).
- Visitors, who are non-members of the media, requesting to film or photograph on the LaGuardia campus must contact the CEA Division at (718) 482-5583 or cea-division@lagcc.cuny.edu prior to visiting campus.
- Visitors must check in with Campus Security Operations upon arrival, present I.D., sign in, and provide description/reason for visiting, including the office or location(s) to be visited.
- No permit is required for the incidental, unobtrusive non-commercial filming or photography by visitors or tourists to the LaGuardia campus; however, filming and photography of classrooms, offices, restrooms, locker rooms, recreation center, and swimming pool, must be approved and coordinated in collaboration with the CEA Division.
- It is not generally necessary to obtain a prior release/permission for any individual or group photographed or recorded in video in a public venue or while attending a public event hosted by LaGuardia Community College. This includes all public spaces across campus from exterior walkways, entry ways, and atriums.
- PLEASE NOTE: It is important to obtain a Photo/Video Release Form from all individuals that are clearly depicted in any photograph or video that will be used in any form of advertising, including but not limited to use on a publicly-available LaGuardia website or in any development materials.
- Photographing and filming of LaGuardia students, faculty and staff can only be done in collaboration with the CEA Division and the individuals being photographed or filmed. Photo release forms for use of likeness should be presented to individuals being photographed or filmed by visitors who film or photograph. Please see CEA Policy.
- LaGuardia’s guidelines restrict the use of any photograph or video to the representation, marketing, or promotion of LaGuardia only. For commercial filming and photography, a formal request must be submitted to the Administration and Support Services Division.
For Media (News Outlets)
News media should submit requests for interviews, photography, and video to the Communications and External Affairs (CEA) Division. LaGuardia’s CEA team is available to assist in coordinating the logistics of any news requests.
For convenience, the word “filming” as used in these guidelines includes motion pictures, filming, videotape, still photography, and digital imaging. Audio recordings are also included. This section provides information for news organizations, the filming industry, students, registered student organizations, visitors to campus, and others.
- Members of the media requesting to film or photograph on the LaGuardia campus must contact the CEA Division at (718) 482-5583 or cea-division@lagcc.cuny.edu prior to visiting campus.
- Media must check in with Campus Security Operations upon arrival, present I.D., sign in, and provide description/reason for visiting.
- Students, faculty and staff cannot be photographed or filmed when they have secluded themselves in places where they have a reasonable expectation of privacy (for example, in dressing rooms, medical facilities, counseling offices, and support services which include LaGuardia CARES, Financial Aid, and the Women’s Center/LGBTQ Safe Hub).
- On-campus “man on the street” interviews with members of the LaGuardia community can be conducted only in coordination with the CEA Division. EXAMPLE: Media outlets requesting to interview members of the college community (students, faculty, and staff) as they walk around the LaGuardia campus. To proceed in this effort, media outlets must contact the Communications and External Affairs Division to coordinate a day, time, and exact location where the interview(s) would take place on campus. Media outlets can call (718) 482-5583 or email cea-division@lagcc.cuny.edu prior to visiting campus.
- Written permits for news filming and photography are not required unless special circumstances apply, in which case the decision to require a permit will be made on a case-by-case basis by Vice President of Communications and External Affairs Manny Romero, who can be reached at (718) 482-5061 or mlromero@lagcc.cuny.edu.
Additional Considerations
The LaGuardia Community, (students, faculty, and staff) are encouraged to review the rules of U.S. Copyright Laws when creating materials (music, videos, films) to be shared or broadcast to audiences. Copyright is a form of protection provided by the laws of the United States (title 17, U.S. Code) to the authors of “original works of authorship,” including literary, dramatic, musical, artistic, and certain other intellectual works. This protection is available to both published and unpublished works. Information is provided on the CUNY Copyright Materials website.
Cybersecurity refers to practices and technologies designed to protect computers, networks, and data from unauthorized access, theft, or damage.
It helps protect your personal information, financial details, and digital accounts from hackers and fraudsters.
To keep my computer secure, I will make sure my operating system and software are always updated to fix any security vulnerabilities. I will install trusted antivirus software and run regular scans to detect and block malware. I’ll use strong passwords and enable two-factor authentication for extra protection. I’ll avoid clicking on unknown links or downloading files from untrusted sources that might contain harmful software. I will also back up important files regularly to a secure location and always lock my computer when I’m not using it to prevent unauthorized access.
When using college computers and labs, always follow LaGuardia’s computer and lab usage policies and respect the privacy of others. Log in with your own credentials and never share your password. Be cautious when accessing personal or sensitive information, especially on shared computers. Avoid downloading or installing unauthorized software, as it could introduce security risks. Always log out of your accounts when you’re finished and make sure to leave the computer clean and ready for the next user. Additionally, report any suspicious activity or technical issues to the IT support team.
To log out properly from a campus computer and protect your information, make sure to sign out of any accounts or websites you’ve accessed, close all personal documents, and clear your browsing history and cache. Always use the official “Log Out” option and lock or shut down the computer when you’re finished. This ensures that no one can access your personal data and keeps the system secure for the next user.
Use at least 12 characters with a combination of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and special symbols. Avoid using easily guessable information like your name or birthdate.
MFA is a security measure requiring users to verify their identity using at least two factors from these categories: something they know (e.g., password), have (e.g., smartphone), or are (e.g., fingerprint). It adds an extra layer of protection, making unauthorized access much harder even if a password is stolen. Common methods include verification codes, authenticator apps, biometric scans, or hardware tokens.
SSO allows users to access multiple applications with one set of login credentials, eliminating the need for separate logins for each system. Users log in once through a central system, which creates a secure pass that lets them access all the connected apps or services. This improves convenience, enhances security by reducing password reuse. SSO is often used in combination with MFA to enhance security while maintaining ease of access.
Look for signs like misspelled words, unfamiliar sender addresses, and messages that ask for personal or financial information or urge you to click on suspicious links.
Public Wi-Fi is not entirely secure. Use the official LaGuardia network and, if needed, connect through a Virtual Private Network (VPN) to ensure your connection is secure.
Do not click on any links or download attachments. Report the email to the LaGuardia IT department or delete it immediately.
Keep your devices and software up to date by enabling automatic updates to protect against security vulnerabilities.
Antivirus software helps detect and protect your computer from malicious software (malware). Yes, you should install and maintain antivirus software on your devices.
A secure website starts with “https://” and shows a padlock icon in the browser’s address bar, indicating the website uses encryption to protect your data.
Immediately change your password. Notify LaGuardia IT support and monitor your account for any unauthorized activity.
Use a PIN, password, or biometric lock, enable automatic updates, and avoid downloading apps from untrusted sources.
