LaGuardia Community College requests that the excitement of celebrating your academic achievement is expressed in a dignified way that will not prevent others from enjoying the commencement ceremony, and creates positive memories for all attendees. In addition to the CUNY Student Code of Conduct (Article XV and Henderson Rules), all commencement ceremony attendees are expected to abide the following:

  • Students must RSVP to pick-up their cap and gown, and their commencement tickets. The dates and times of distribution are below.
  • Students participating in commencement must follow all instructions provided by faculty and staff so the ceremony can run smoothly.
  • Students are encouraged to wear appropriate footwear, as the ceremony will require a significant amount of time standing and walking. In addition, the Queens College Quad is a grassy area.
  • Students and guests are expected to refrain from engaging in disruptive behavior. Any behavior that results in a visual, verbal, or physical disruption to the ceremony may result in removal and/or formal disciplinary action.
  • Air horns, noisemakers, large signs, and other items that may disrupt the ceremony or other’s ability to view or hear the ceremony, are prohibited. Failure to follow this directive may result in removal.
  • Alcohol and illegal drugs or substances are prohibited. Failure to follow this directive may result in removal and/or formal disciplinary action.
  • Students are strongly encouraged not to carry pets, or personal items while crossing the stage. Trained service animals that assist students with disabilities are welcome at commencement. If you or any of your guests need accessibility accommodations, please contact Jhony Nelson at JHONYN@lagcc.cuny.edu.  Please note that children are not allowed to participate in the processional or cross the stage during the ceremony.

Please note that all commencement participants remain students of the college until their degree is conferred, and as such, must adhere to all policies that apply to students enrolled at the institution.
