June 27, 2024: Since launching at LaGuardia in 2012, the CUNY Fatherhood Academy has helped roughly 1,400 fathers, mostly Black and Hispanic first-generation students, earn their GEDs and figure out how higher education can help them reach their goals as parents. “It’s about generational change,” said Raheem Brooks, program director of Fatherhood Academy at LaGuardia.

June 24, 2024: LaGuardia Community College celebrated the graduation of the 1,909 members of LaGuardia’s Class of 2024, the college’s 52nd graduating class, at a Commencement Ceremony on Friday, June 21, on the Queens College quad.

June 21, 2024: Isaac Ramos (LaGuardia’24, Fine Arts) was named 2024 Queens Creator by the New York Mets and New Balance Athletics, Inc. As the 2024 Queens Creator, Isaac collaborated with Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor to design a T-shirt honoring Latino representation on the Mets team. The T-shirt is being distributed to ticket holders throughout this baseball season at Citi Field.

June 17, 2024: Launched in 2012 at LaGuardia Community College, the CUNY Fatherhood Academy offers young fathers access to education, employment, and professional development. Two recent Fatherhood graduates are Tyshawn Washington, who earned a degree in accounting from LaGuardia and will begin classes toward a bachelor’s degree at Baruch College this fall, and Christian Ortiz, who earned his bachelor’s in writing and literature from Hunter College after graduating from LaGuardia.

DIVERSE: ISSUES IN HIGHER EDUCATION
June 14, 2024: The CUNY Fatherhood Academy has supported 1,400 fathers, ages 18-30, since its 2012 launch at LaGuardia Community College. June 13, 2024: The seventh annual Pridefest, which took place on Friday, June 7, recognized and celebrated diversity and inclusion in the World’s Borough. Support from the CUNY LGBTQIA+ Consortium, in partnership with LaGuardia Community College and other local institutions, made the event possible. Pridefest was sponsored, in-part, by the LaGuardia and Wagner Archives.
