April is National Community College Month!

Dear Friends,

April is National Community College Month, and it’s a time to celebrate and recognize the value community colleges bring to our world. Here are just a few reasons why community colleges matter.

Community colleges are vital pillars of education and socioeconomic mobility offering accessible and affordable pathways to higher education and workforce readiness to diverse populations.

Community colleges play a crucial role in making higher education accessible to everyone, regardless of their socioeconomic background, by offering significantly lower tuition costs when compared to four-year universities.

Community colleges provide graduates pathways to transfer to four-year universities, leveraging their initial education as stepping stones for earning their bachelor’s degrees and beyond.

Community colleges provide practical training and skills development programs tailored for in-demand industries, equipping students with the knowledge and abilities needed to succeed in today’s competitive workforce.

LaGuardia is one of seven community colleges in the City University of New York, and one of 1,167 in the country. Each of these community colleges is deeply rooted in their local communities, catering to a wide range of students, including first-generation college students, returning adults, and students seeking to upskill or reskill toward new careers.

LaGuardia is an institution that fosters students’ personal and professional growth and where faculty and staff are dedicated to helping students succeed.

This month, I encourage everyone to visit the “We Are LaGuardia” website and learn about our diverse and inspiring students. I also invite everyone to WATCH THIS VIDEO featuring some of our dedicated faculty and staff talking about the value community colleges offer.

I wish everyone a wonderful month and a great semester!
